The voting channel for the Golden Pinwheel People's Choice Award has been opened now!

The 2019 Golden Pinwheel International Young Illustrators Competition (that we often refer to as the Golden Pinwheel Competition) is about to reach its final and most exciting stage, as our jury members from China, Italy, Japan and Portugal will meet in Shanghai next week to select the winners of the Golden Pinwheel special awards.

In the past six months, the five picture book professionals taking part in the Golden Pinwheel Jury have selected 50 finalists among the nearly 2,000 entries received from young illustrators from all around the world. The Jury’s choice was based on the artistic value, visual effect, narrative performance and originality of the artworks. The finalists were announced on 12 September. In just a few days, all their works—no less than 250 pieces—will brighten CCBF at the Golden Pinwheel Illustration Exhibition featured at the Fair from 15 to 17 November.

Golden Pinwheel Special Awards: you too can be a jury!
The competition encompasses several special awards, including the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award (China), the Golden Pinwheel Grand Award (International) and the Golden Pinwheel Illustration Special Mentions, all of them selected by our professional Jury on 14 November and announced in the evening of 15 November.

But do you know you can also support your favourite artist by voting in the People’s Choice Award. The People’s Choice Award is the only prizein which CCBF visitors and followers can play to be a juror and help their favourite artist out of the 50 finalists become the winner. Online voting starts on 8 November and all CCBF visitors will also be able to make their choice onsite.

Whether you are planning to come to CCBF or are just wandering through the Golden Pinwheel online gallery, you will all be able to vote! The voting is open until 17 November and the winner will be announced on 18 November.

Every year, the Golden Pinwheel Competition comes with a publication—our Yearbook—which features artworks and inside stories about each of the 50 finalists. Not only is it a beautiful book that you can flick through every time you need a little bit of colours in your life, it is also a great tool for editors in search for new talents and inspiration.

The Golden Pinwheel Yearbook will be on sales at the CCBF Book Store and at the Illustrators Survival Corner

The 2019 Yearbook cover artist is Sabrina Perez (Montevideo, 1983). She is an illustrator, an author of four picture books, an animator and art teacher. Her series “Miniature” is the result of a creative sketching game she played with herself, and it has already owned her to be selected in the 2019 Bologna Illustrators Exhibition last spring, and now in the Golden Pinwheel Competition.
